Transsexuality may be defined as a variant gender identity in which there is an incongruity between a person's external genitalia and his or her psychological sense of gender. Transsexuals are sometimes defined as individuals who seek to undergo (or have undergone) the transition from their birth sex to that of the opposite sex, usually by means of gender reassignment therapy or surgery.

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH)has approximately 350 members from around the world, in the fields of psychiatry, endocrinology, surgery, law, psychology, sociology, and counseling. Its Standards of Care represent an evolving interdisciplinary consensus on best practice in the provision of gender transition and crossdressing services.

Center of Excellence for Transgender Health (CoE)

The Center of Excellence for Transgender Health (CoE) combines the unique strengths and resources of a nationally renowned training and capacity-building institution, the Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center (PAETC), and an internationally recognized leader in HIV prevention research, the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS), both of which are housed at the University of California San Francisco.

L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center

 The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s broad array of services for the entire LGBT community includes many programs developed specifically to meet the needs of both MTF (male-to-female) and FTM (female-to-male) transgender people.

The Center also offers the convenience of an on-site lab and a pharmacy, so you can take care of all your trans-specific medical needs at one facility.
We accept most major PPO health insurance policies, as well as Medi- Dr. Maddie Deutsch Cal and Medicare.
For clients without insurance, services are available on a cash basis.
For patients with limited income, we offer a sliding fee schedule. Charges are as low as $30 for a doctor visit although additional charges for lab and other services may apply.
